Do Not Call List. My phone company sold my number? What can I do?

I recently had a home phone line installed into my house this past Saturday and for some reason today (Wed) I’ve received several telemarketing calls from different people. One was from a guy about a sweepstake that I hadn’t entered and another was from a company calling homeowners about purchasing home security systems. After the first call I put my new number on the national do not call list. But then an hour or two later I get the second call.

I call both the numbers back only to find out that they had purchased my number from my provider. They routinely purchase new numbers this way.

Can I report them, both the telemarketers and my phone provider and thus be compensated for my trouble?

How long does it normally take once you put your number on the list do these people stop calling?

  1. George A says:

It takes 48-72 hours before the calls will stop. And even then, some telemarketers apparently do not know how to print out the daily list they have access to that contains all of the current do not call numbers or do not know how to read it once they do print it out.

All of my numbers, including my cell phones are listed on the national do not call list & has been for years- I still get an occasional telemarketer call.

Even though your number isn’t showing yet in the registry, you can still tell any telemarketers that call to remove you from their database & not to call you again.
