Do YOU personally feel safer with a home security system?

I’m debating getting an alarm system installed. Nothing has happened (thank God) to make me want to get one necessarily, but I’ve been on the fence about it for awhile.

Just thought I’d take a poll.

Yes! It’s worth every penny. They alert police or fire if need be! I feel safer!

Yes, I feel much safer, and it helps one time it is worth it. In my situation, we only had to use it once in 5 years but it is definetely worth it. So, I will encourage you to get one.

I would feel safer if there are enough police in the city where I live to keep this city safe. It took about 1 hour just for a police to get to my girlfriends house the day the alarm went off accidental, man she or her family could have been dead.

If it puts you at ease, it’s money well spent.

My father who works in the alarm business says an alarm is just a deterrent. If someone wants to break into your house they are going to break in. You’d be just as safe stealing an alarm company sign from someone’s lawn and putting it on your lawn.

No, its not a very good deterrent I think to ward off any criminals. If anyone wants to get into a house, they will. Also any potential criminals happen to see the guy coming into install such a device will prompt them to want to come in your house more than others because you obviously have something you are wanting to keep from getting stolen (this is how most of them think). The best home security system I have is my .357 pistol that I keep under my pillow. Someone hears an alarm go off they know they have a few minutes before the cops show. Someone hears a hammer of a gun being pulled back, they dont generally wait around to find out whats gonna happen next.

    I feel it’s a very justifiable investment.

Granted, if someone really wants in, they are going to get in, and a loud noise won’t stop them. It will, however, deter crimes committed, or those being attempted, by someone less motivated or connected to the victim.

It’s not very expensive, and if you live in a high crime area, worth every penny.

    Get one!
Funny thing, only a couple months after I had my alarm system installed in my old house, some young teenagers broke into my home when I was at work.
My neighbor heard the alarm and saw the two boys run off, but since they didn’t leave any fingerprints on my broken window, they couldn’t be arrested. I’m sure they all told their friends that I have an alarm system, so it did help bring me peace of mind.

I don’t have just one. I have two. A chocolate lab and a border collie.

Kinda of false security when most people are harmed at home by natural causes (earthquakes, tornadoes. slipping in the bathtub) and domestic violence. And if the power goes off for any length of time.. you’re just in there with the rest of us….
If it helps you feel safer.. do it.
My vote is for the dog, though. He’ll let you know if anything is going on.
My one experience with an alarm occured a few years ago when I was cleaning houses with my sister. We accidentally set off the alarm. We finished cleaning the whole house before the law showed up! (we really could have "cleaned the house" if you know what I mean.

I do. I am not sorry that we have it. It does give you a peace of mind. If you live alone then I highly recommend it. But shop around because there are differences. Think about what you want in terms of services. What is most important to you? Check online for different security services. Compare prices, service plans, etc. I recommend wireless but it does cost more.
