The only way to disarm (or arm) any security system is with an appropriately programmed remote, either hardwired or wireless (key fob type). Practically all modern alarm system master control panels use computer controls.

When a system is initially installed, a set of "default" conditions are loaded and then modified by the installer and/or homeowner (user) to meet specific security requirements. Most installing companies, including Protection One, changes the default codes and then changes a setting usually called "Enable Installer Lockout". This allows the homeowner to change access codes, but not even the installing company can then make changes or arm/disarm the system. They can monitor it, but they can’t change it.

If all wiring is properly connected and concealed, any cutting or tampering with it will simply initiate either a "tamper signal" or a "trouble condition" which is immediately reported to the central monitoring station. Regardless of what you may see in the movies, there’s no way to cut or rearrange wires that will disarm such a system. Usually, if there’s a failure, it’s with the people using the system, improper response to "false" alarms, or not responding to trouble signals.

I had this same problem. I solved it by calling the cops and asking them what I should do. I suggest you try that.

Always interesting when someone asks a questions and the answer could be used for a bad reason – and this seems like it could be that. Here is what you don’t know:

This system could have a built-in cellular radio – lots of Protection One systems do. So, even if you cut a phone wire (if they have a phone line at all), the system would still be operational. And cutting power won’t help, since pretty much all alarm systems have a built-in battery back-up that lasts for at least 4 hours, and perhaps as many as 24 hours. So, is it worth taking a chance? How lucky do you feel these days?

By the way, our company is 100% cellular, meaning that every system we sell has the built-in cellular radio, so no phone line is required. More and more alarm companies are getting on board with this technology. They charge more than we do, but at least they are upgrading from "old school" technology.

If you are a prankster or a bad guy, I hope you get caught.
