Ok I was separated from the Marines in 2006 for failing to adapt and i was just sent to see a psychiatrist just to talk. I was never strapped down or nothing. After we talked for about 15 minutes that was the end of it. I was send home the end. I currently work for security company which wants to promote me to an armed position. I need to apply for my FOID card and one of the questions is have I ever been in a mental facility or treated for a mental illness etc… Does my situation apply or should I just mark NO? I dont want to be convicted of a class 2 felony.. Please help
Well.. it depends what went on with your psychiatrist. What did they say to you? Did you just went there to "talk" or were they treating you with a mental illness? And, if it WAS considered a mental facility, usually people would put yes and explain their dilemma and everything will be OK. Just because you put yes won’t automatically disqualify you. Good luck!
Did you ever receive a formal diagnosis and take any pills or therapy? No. Therefore you were not in a mental facility and you certainly were not treated for a mental illness.
At least based upon what you have said here.
Based on the information given, I would mark no. Plenty of people speak with psychiatrists and as long you were not diagnosed with any sort of illness, I think you are fine.
