I want to set up a Home CCTV system – what’s best?

Hi
I want to set up three cameras. Two facing front/back in a vulnerable side access route and 1 above a garage at the rear. Obviously I need night vision but B&W vs. Colour? I’d like to wire into my PC if I can rather than spend a fortune on a separate terminal (or spend the money on upgrading the PC). I reckon a separate 250-320Gb HDD should do for my needs. Would an external HDD do or would it need to be internal (limits on USB feed etc.)?
Where’s best to get this sort of kit – Maplins spring to mind but….. What sort of minimum specs am I looking at?
Obviously brackets, wires, cameras – what else?
Cheaper the better but not at the expense of doing a proper job!
Many thanks
