You can integrate X-10 control of lights to a security system. The functionality is either provided by the security system or a seperate light control system. The idea is that when you activate the security the lighting can be made to mimic activity or auto shut off lights etc. when you deactivate the security the lights turn on . The simplest and most flexible way is to use seperate systems and tie security system status to the lighting system.

Another advantage to integrating light control to seciruty is that lights can be made to attract attention to the property if the system is tripped in addition to the alarm horn.

Most security systems are tied into a central monitoring station. Cheap systems use the phone line and dial out when tripped. As a backup you can used a wireless reporting system either as a stand alone or as a backup incase the phone lines are cut.

A garage door interface is nice so you can have your garage area protected by teh alarm system as well and retain the ability to open the garage door without having to first disable the alarm system. Without such an interface you need to disarm the alarm system first before opening the door and that can be a hassle. (Or you need to have a really long delay to allow access to the garage and time to disarm the alarm)

On my alarm I like having a "Quick Arm" feature which provides two functions with a single two button press: I can either stay in the home under to protection of the perimeter alarm (requires entering the alarm code to leave/enter the home) OR provides an easy way to set the alarm on the way out the door. If quick arm is activated and you exit within a delay time the full alarm system is activated. A feature such as this is usually programmed by the installer

That much money, I wouldn’t be asking the question on Yahoo, I’d ask my security expert.

And he knows more than anyone on this forum, or he should.

I would have my own island with dedicated security gaurds. Or a bunker, they could take an air-strike. But seriously, seclusion is the best security.
