I am thinking about activating an existing system. Do the police really come if the system calls? Do criminals really avoid homes that post the sign? Please be honest. Has your experience been good, bad, or neutral?

I once had a similar system. You have to key in a code before leaving your home and go straight to the key pad when you get back to turn it off before it signals the company. If you forget or don’t make it on time, the company will call your home and you have to provide a code word to assure them that you are the owner. If no one answers the phone or the incorrect code is given the police will be dispatched. The problem I had with it is several times the wind blew my back door open while I was gone. Because the police closed and locked it when they arrived I was not aware of it. The police soon tired of this and threatened to start charging me for each incident.
