Criminals look for an easy target. Given the time it takes for the alarm company to realize the alarm, notify the local police and the time it takes for them to respond, a lot of your stuff can be long gone.
If they hear a dog, most will not risk it. Even if the dog is a lap dog, somebody may notice all the barking and call the cops with a quicker response.
Now, the advantage for an alarm is simple, if you travel, you don’t have to worry about feeding, exercising and taking it outside for pooping and peeing, like you would for a dog.
Geese.
Dog is best burglar alarm can be taken out by cutting electricity back up power will remain for 1 or 2 hours
12 gauge pump action shotgun with 000 buckshot is best.
A dog would be better.
The problem with a monitored security system is that the police will take time to get there.
Depends on what you want from it. If someone really wants to break into your home, they will find a way. A dog is a good way to keep most people from breaking in. Just the barking alone is enough to draw attention to the house and deter a burglar. But one drawback to a dog is that they can’t alert the authorities. That’s something a monitoring service can do. And many can also monitor for other emergencies in the home, like a fire, and contact the proper authorities to deal with it.
But one thing a monitoring service cannot do for you is get all excited and happy when you come home. Only a dog can do that. And it may be enough to change a bad day into a much better one.
<aside> A dog is also going to be a true friend, more than your wife is. Test it out: Lock both your wife and your dog in the trunk of your car for an hour and see which one will be happy to see you when you open the trunk.
If you are not home the dog is best.
A monitored system is a joke, at best no one will investigate for 20 to 30 minutes and sometimes never.
Regardless what the company says about their response times a monitored system is not going to deter a criminal.
I have a business in a strip shopping center and every business including mine has a system, and break ins occurs once or twice each month, no one has ever been arrested.
Rottweiler AND geese. That way, if you still get burgled, you can eat the geese, shoot the dog and buy a proper burglar alarm!
