I'd take the Asus
- FHD
- DX11 GPU
- 2 hard drives
- Warranty
- Toshiba screams, "LOOK AT ME" (imho)
- Nice size community of other G73 owners:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus-gaming-notebook-forum/
http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/492354-all-g73jh-problems-solutions-here.html

The only reason I might go for the Toshiba is for the media keys, ExpressCard slot, and eSATA port, or if I were inconvenienced by the problems on the G73. I would rather find another laptop though if not the G73, maybe the Sager NP8760 even if it doesn't have the backlit keyboard and BRD.

Edit:
The second link I listed describes all known problems with the G73Jh. I don't think you'll find much in the way of only problems with the A1.

If you want a customized model:

They're all reputable. Otherwise Amazon has it as well.

You want to get the 500GB Seagate Momentus XT hard drive. I updated mine last week... If possible, USB 3.0 ports too or you can spend $30 for an Express34 card that will fit into an Express34 or Express54 slot.
You might look at custom gaming machines here if you want faster CPUs / more customization

They have several other models. I have not bought hardware there yet, but I have been thinking about it.

There's no question about it.

The ASUS G73 is superior in EVERY aspect (that matters).

The Mobility 5870 is much, much better than the 360M. Most important aspect.

The ASUS screen has a much higher resolution. The Toshiba screen has a stupid resolution that's not as high.

The Asus has a bigger hard drive.

The Toshiba has a slightly better CPU but you're playing games which means the difference is negligible, if any. The only time the 740 will have a lead is if you're video editing or doing something intensive like rendering.

The Asus has more RAM which still doesn't matter because most games run perfectly fine on 4GB of RAM.

Asus means you get a "free" gaming mouse.

Battery life will suck on both, along with weight, but it's obviously something you don't care about that much. Also, the Asus is lighter.

I like Asus motherboards way better all around. They make great home-builds, and in a laptop it is even sweeter. They were one of the 1st to offer 5 secs to the Internet via Linux (and FireFox installed in the GUI) on their desktop motherboards...as a boot option, plus Skype for phone calls. I do not know if the laptops have that option, but you can download Linux Ubuntu 10.5 for free, regardless of your present system...and as a bonus, it is 3x or better in speed on the Internet than when running in Windows. Look for www.ubuntu.com.

The fact the Asus has 8 gigs versus the Toshiba 4gigs also makes it very easy to make up my mind, when it comes to memory caching, and if you need a wired network, you can always get a card. But with WI-FI, who cares? Plus you are covered with Blue-tooth for your cell...and the screen resolution is higher. You cannot upgrade your screen pixels later, so the Asus is my final choice.
