Okay, so i own my own small business. I just want a camera with audio for recording of my staff. I am getting two Linksys WVC54GCA cameras because they are cheap and what i want. I will get a cheap wireless G router to connect them. However, i don’t want to record on my PC because i don’t want my staff to access it. I need to be able to store it on some type of Network storage device that i could remotely view from home. I found a DVR i could view remotely but i don’t know if i could reocrd to it. It had what looked kind of like coxial cable hookups with a pin in the middle. In conclusion, i need a Network storage device or network DVR that i can view remotely and that i can record to over a network from my linksys WVC54GCA cameras
Some Ideas:
I am not a business owner but I do have a security camera outside my home. I use a program called Capturix VideoSpy which I find excellent because it has the option to record only when motion is detected and up to 30 fps…(or less) this means that you would not need a gigantic HD to store the images. Personally I get about 50 gb worth of images after 1 week running 24 hrs a day and at 30 fps since the program records only when motion is detected outside my home.
This program also has the ability to FTP to a website but I haven’t done this myself. There are some other remote possibilities as well.
However when you view remotely, in real time, the video will be very choppy and lags considerably.
Your best bet is to record to a password protected system or at least make a password screensaver. I don’t think this will interrupt the program. You just have to experiment.
Your other option is to record to a portable USB drive and take this home when you leave.
