What are the top five home security alarms? as in brand names.
As for installation companies, I wouldn’t rely on the "big guys" as you can usually get better service from a small company. Ask some friends, look at window stickers. I have found picking local comanies for anything is the best way to go. I had to phone one of the national big-guys monitoring station to take over one of their unhappy customers and was actually on hold for 15 minutes…. I could have been calling in a false alarm. NUTS!
Equipment wise, I prefer Paradox for the features and price point. DSC is a second choice, however they have remained pretty stagnent when it comes to new features and support (Speaking from an installers point of view)
Magellan is a wireless Paradox alarm, I would definately not recommend going wireless for many reasons.
There is also Ademco which was recently bought by Honeywell. I’ve never been a fan of their equipment as it is very limited and not overly user friendly when compared to Paradox or even DSC.
Visonic is mostly into detectors… never been a fan.
Caddx was bought by General Electric… don’t let the name fool you. I know someone who uses them and likes them. Features are fairly good and they have alot of choices in keypads. They have however not managed to woo me over.
