Are you asking what a good one is or what one is? A home alarm system is s system where an alarm will sound if a door or window is opened. Only a code on the installed key pad can turn off the alarm. Once the alarm is set off for a while the police will be notified and they will go to your house.

If you're asking what a good one is, then I would just search for one in your area. I just choose a local one for my house, and it's a commonly used company in my area. You can also search for ratings online too.

Home security alarm systems are generally divided into three mainstreams between Wired Home Security System, wireless home security system, and a combination of both which is known as hybrid home security system. When you set your option on the wired system, you will realize that this kind of home security system cost less than wireless security systems moreover when this wired system is set up during the construction phase of the new house. Although you will still be able to install Wired Home Security System on an old house, you just have to wait a little bit longer to have it set and done for a few fitting and adjustment.v

Boy, I could write a book (and there are several out there!) - but here's a shorter answer. A good alarm system for the home should detect not just intrusion, but also fire and environmental conditions (carbon monoxide, low temperature, water, etc.). The important and specific attributes to look for:

1) Safer: your system should use cellular monitoring for the highest level of reliability (no phone line to cut), and many people don't even have a phone line today. Forget internet monitoring, it's just as vulnerable as a phone line.
2) Smarter: you should have access to interactive features, like remote arm/disarm, text and email notifications, video features, and even smart home (locks, lights, and thermostat all controlled remotely). All this is available today from the good companies, at very reasonable prices.
3) Simpler: your system should be wireless for easier installation and troubleshooting. It's easy to add sensors any time, and even move the whole system with you, especially if you get a DIY system (and there are some great ones available).
4) Affordable: you should not have to pay a extra for the equipment that does all this, or a ton for the monthly services. Some companies really mark up these features, so shop hard!

You should also search on-line reviews for any company you consider - there is plenty of good review info available these days.

Here is a handy link that tells you what to ask for in an alarm system, and there is even a podcast on the same page (titled "Picking an Alarm Company") to make your job easier.

Good luck!

They are an alarms system that will sound if someone breaks into your house. Most of them notify a central switchboard who in turn calls the police.
