Vector keeps stopping by trying to sell. They seem legit but I keep thinking of ADT. Just want to see what others use. Also what is the Norm for contract length?

I’ve had ADT for 10 years now and they have worked great. I think they require a 3 year contract. They do have a moving clause though so that if you move after 1 year, you can get them to give you a new system. Their monthly costs are listed here:

You would pay more for them initially if you get one of their upgraded systems (like the fire, backup cellular, etc.) Backup celluar is nice but that whole package costs around $500 up front and I think that’s a bit high for something that might not happen. (Meaning someone might not cut your phone line for your alarm system).

If you do go for a system, I would recommend getting one of those key fobs instead of getting an additional alarm panel. You can keep the key fob by your bed and press it if there is an emergency and you can’t make it to the alarm control panel.

I would be careful of ADT – primarily because they have a variable service reputation, but also because they charge a lot for the type of services you should have these days, like cellular monitoring (no phone line required, and none to cut) . Good thing it is very easy to shop on line, as far as seeking out reviews for the companies you would consider – and since you are looking to protect your home and family, it’s worth taking the approach you are following to get some additional opinions.

I would suggest you take a look at this link, as it may help you a lot in asking the right questions of any alarm company:

There is also a podcast on that page- "Picking an Alarm Company" – that is a great source of information.

If you do nothing else, make sure you demand cellular monitoring – and it should not cost a ton for that level of reliability and security. It provides the best peace of mind you can get, but some companies charge a lot extra for the equipment and for the monthly service. Good luck to you!
