call me naive, but i always thought that a home security system would still be active (by some backup power or something) even if your main power supply was turned off. To my suprise my friends told me that this isnt the case, and that indeed someone could just rock up to your house, turn off your main power which will then disable your security system and then rob it. This shocked me as then what is the point of having a security system if someone can so easily bypass it???
YOU CANNOT TURN A SECURITY SYSTEM OFF BY SHUTTING THE MAIN POWER TO THE HOUSE , IT HAS A BACKUP BATTERY THAT WILL SECURE THE HOUSE UP TO 7 DAYS !!!!! UNLESS IF YOU INSTALLED YOUR OWN SYSTEM THAN YEAH GOOD LUCK CHUCK!
that’s why there is a lock to the main power panel.
I am sure those home installation service people will do something about it.
Installations I have come across have a back up battery system which powers the alarm sounder, and this is set off under tamper conditions such as the power being turned off.
all of the systems that i have ever seen had either a back up power supply or a setting which set off the alarm if the power was cut (or both).
Yes, your friends are wrong. Home security systems all have a back up battery that insures power to the system for several hours in case of any power failure.
I don’t know where you live, but I have not seen a switch for the main power on the outside of a home. Only way to kill the power is to remove the meter, or take a chance with your life and cut the main line which would involve climbing up on the roof. Most systems have battery back-up and also an alarm (at the monitoring station) when power is lost.
your meter may be locked your main power should not be accessable to the public and don’t put a lock on your main panel, this could be dangerous, your security system is probally backed up by 12v battery and some systems use phone lines 9v you must be in a rough nieghborhood….buy some false cameras with a led light signifying they are on this will deter thieves
